[ARCHIVED] City Council RECAP, February 2, 2023

City Council Recap

Last night’s regularly scheduled City Council meeting was a celebration of successes! Session began by the swearing in of three new Woodland Park police officers by police Chief Chris Deisler. Mayor LaBarre, City Council and the City of Woodland Park extend a very warm welcome to officers Dunbar, Van Camp and Arseneau (not pictured) and their families. Welcome to our mountain community and thank you for your service!

Karla Collins was thoughtfully recognized by Mayor LaBarre, Council, and the City of Woodland Park for her ten-years of dedicated service to the community as an accomplished Court Clerk. Karla is well-respected by her peers, court officials and the community she serves. Thank you for all you have done for our community, Karla!

Chris Gonzales was newly appointed to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. Chris is devoted to improving the great outdoors in our community. He brings experience and passion to the board with enthusiasm to serve the community.

City Manager Michael Lawson informed the community that the upcoming Citizen’s Academy program is nearing capacity. Interested individuals should submit their applications soon before spots are filled. Citizen’s Academy is a free, educational opportunity to explore local government and city services in greater depth.

This week the City launched a fun campaign for all ages, Name Our Snowplows. One plow is specially reserved for the children of our community, and two are held for the grown-ups. Woodland Park residents are encouraged to submit their clever or silly ideas before February 26, 2023. Once the contest entry closes, the public will be given the opportunity to vote for their favorites! This lighthearted community-building contest is sure to be a lot of fun!
